AI orchestration for software teams

Make agentic development reliable enough for real codebases

We are building Artificer Crucible to refine what AI coding agents produce into software your team can trust — a turnkey harness with the structure, verification, and accountability that agent work needs in real codebases.

Strong defaults for production-ready agentic development — adaptable to the prompts, skills, standards, and workflows your team already trusts.

The problem

The model is not the whole system

AI models can write code. That is no longer the hard part.

The hard part is making agentic development reliable inside a real engineering team — giving agents the right context, verifying their work, controlling what they can do, and knowing when a human needs to step in.

Most failures in AI-assisted development are not just model failures. They are harness failures.

A capable model inside a weak engineering system still produces work teams cannot trust.

The agent did not have the right spec. It copied an outdated pattern. It made a plausible change without enough verification — a mistake the system had no way to remember or prevent next time.

That surrounding system is the harness — and Artificer Digital is building that missing layer for real codebases.

The product

Artificer Crucible — the turnkey AI development harness

Artificer Crucible is being built to carry agent work from intent to verified change. It is our first product — an AI orchestration harness, in development.

It is being designed to provide the harness as a managed experience — structured work, project context, reusable skills and prompts, verification gates, human approval points, observability, cost controls, and feedback loops that help the system improve over time.

Initiative-Driven Development is the methodology behind it — launching openly first; Artificer Crucible is the product being built around it; and the Artificer's Grimoire tracks the research shaping both. That foundation is designed for work that outgrows a single prompt or coding session — preserving intent, context, decisions, and verification across larger initiatives.

The model generates. The harness determines what can ship.

Focus areas

What we're focused on

Prepare real codebases for agents

Most existing systems were not designed for agents. Artificer Crucible is being built to make brownfield codebases — where context, conventions, dependencies, and history matter — ready for agent work.

Govern how agent work moves

Agentic development needs human approval points, scoped permissions, review gates, and a clear record of what happened.

Strengthen the harness with every run

The harness should improve as the team uses it — review feedback, failed checks, repeated fixes, and successful patterns becoming better prompts, specs, skills, tests, and guardrails: a living harness.

Make every run accountable

Teams need to see what agents are doing, what changed, what it cost, and when the system should warn, pause, or stop.

Who's behind it

Tim Schiller, Founder

Artificer Digital was founded by Tim Schiller (opens in new tab), a senior software engineer focused on infrastructure, developer tooling, production systems, and AI-assisted software delivery.

The company exists to answer a practical question: What does it take to make agentic development reliable enough for production software work?

Answering it means engineering the whole harness around AI coding agents — the context, verification, and accountability that let a team trust what ships.

Field notes

The Artificer’s Grimoire

The Artificer’s Grimoire is our weekly AI-assisted intelligence feed for practitioners and engineering leaders building, evaluating, or operating production agent systems.

We developed it to help us stay current while building Artificer Crucible — tracking AI agentic development, harness engineering, context engineering, orchestration patterns, governance, protocols, and spec-driven development.

Each edition is produced through an AI-assisted editorial pipeline with human review, so the research that informs our product work can also be useful to teams exploring the same frontier.

Become a design partner

If you lead an engineering team working out how to run AI agents against a real codebase, this is the moment to shape what Artificer Crucible becomes.

Become a design partner

Register interest in the pilot

Design partners get a seat at the table while the harness takes shape — early influence over how readiness, governance, verification, observability, and cost-control workflows are designed around your team's real production constraints.

Artificer Crucible is in development, sequenced behind the IDD launch — an early relationship with no timeline promise, not a purchase. Register your interest below and we'll be in touch as the work matures.
